Fuckin’ Friday Prompt #39

It seems far-fetched, but it’s happened. It happened to Jenny Jones. It happened to Jerry Springer. It’s happened on a couple other shows as well. They push people to the brink for the sake of the ratings, and people tend to get dangerous on the brink. And yes, daytime TV may not be in its prime as it was in the 90s, but it’s still out there. Incidentally, watching a live taping of Springer is still amazing.

So that brings us to it; a subject prompt for your Friday afternoon:

Write about someone murdering their significant other following an appearance on a daytime TV talk show.

This also brings me around to another topic I wanted to touch on today. Apparently, I post a good number of murder prompts, to the point where some of expressed concern that I might actually murder someone. Rear assured, I’m not able actual murderer.

Like it or not, we, as a society, are obsessed with murder. We watch movies, TV shows, and documentaries about it. We read and write books about it. We follow news stories about it. We even fantasize about doing it. I mean, everyone else does that, too, right?

There’s few acts a human can commit as destructive or as horrific as ending the life of another human being. And since most of us are incapable of committing such an act, it’s only natural that we became obsessed with the act itself as well as those who are capable of it. And let’s face it; readers love to read about a murder as much as writers love to write about it.

So I’m not a monster. I’m just giving the masses what they want. And with a writing prompt account that set out to give the most hardcore, ugly, and horrifying prompts out there, of course murder would be a priority.

So that’s my piece on the topic. Remember to send anything you’ve created using a Fuckin’ Friday prompt to Million and One for a chance to be featured. Now go commit the literary crime of murder, but not literally.
